Cost-effective panelling for your home office

To enhance the decor of your home office space, an excellent choice is wall panelling. It's easy to install and helps to create a beautiful space where you can boost your productivity and creativity.

Wall panels offer an injection of textures and patterns to a room, adding visual appeal without the need for wallpaper. So, if you're looking to transform your office with a practical design that still oozes calmness, panelling is ideal.

There are various styles of MDF panelling to choose from. For example, you could opt for simple, clean lines with shaker style panelling. Alternatively, you could introduce a more traditional, farmhouse look with tongue and groove.

Or, to incorporate a classic style, try wainscoting. This covers the lower part of a wall, and helps to protect it from scuffs. It's a great balance of style and functionality.

Another look we love is vertical slatted panels. Wood slats add a subtle elegance to an office and draw your eye upwards (perfect if you're hoping to make the room feel taller!). Slat walls work particularly well when paired with natural materials elsewhere in the room, such as wooden furniture.

Whether you use MDF or wood panels for your office will ultimately depend on the room's aesthetics. However, one thing to note is that if your office is humid, you may want to consider moisture-resistant MDF panelling as a durable option.

You could even use panels to create feature walls that include corporate branding, especially in a shared office.

Whatever design you choose, you can then paint your MDF panels to match the colours of the room. So, whether you'd like the space to feel light and airy with cream tones or sophisticated with hints of black or navy, panelling allows you to achieve this.

Installing MDF and wooden panels

While panels can be secured to old surfaces in quick renovations, if you can, it's worth taking the time to install them directly to the wall for a more secure fit.

For quick and easy installation of your office wall panelling, it helps to use adhesive. You'll also need a spirit level to confirm they're all completely straight.

Once installed, you can paint the panels in the colour of your choice. It's a good idea to buy your panels pre-primed to avoid needing to do this yourself.
