Panelling Direct, founded by Connor Gater in 2021, has rapidly grown to become one of the leading wall panelling retailers in the UK.
A lot has changed in the last five years. Having initially started with just a tiny unit to work from, we’ve expanded to now operate from two warehouses, with our own fleet of delivery vehicles and a growing team of super talented people.
To ensure the DIY process is as straightforward as possible for our customers, we sell panelling that’s precision-cut, primed and ready to fit.
Plus, alongside decorative wall panelling, our collection also includes gorgeous external cladding and room dividers, suitable for a wide range of home and garden projects.
Wondering how we got to where we are now?
Here’s the story of how Connor built Panelling Direct into the business it is today.
“I didn’t plan on starting a wall panelling company,” Connor says. “Honestly, someone just walked in and asked for it.”
That conversation sparked an idea, leading him to ask: “Why don’t we do it?”
At the time, he’d been working for his family’s business, Robins Timber.
Wall panelling was becoming increasingly popular, following a surge in interest on social media during the Covid-19 pandemic. Connor saw the potential for a new business that could meet that growing demand among DIYers, and Panelling Direct was born.
With a small initial investment of around £2,000, he started building the company from a small unit in Brierley Hill, West Midlands.
Following years of long hours and hard graft, Connor’s dedication to growing the business is paying off. We’re still proudly based in the Midlands, just with a lot more warehouse space and a bigger team to keep up with the rising sales.
From the start, Connor has maintained a focus on high-quality products and brilliant customer service. This attention to detail has led us to receive excellent reviews on Trustpilot, and will remain core to the business as we continue to grow.
Alongside our website, we have a showroom in Brierley Hill where you can see our products in person.
